Wired (PoE or coax)

A PoE switch sends data and power on one Cat6 run. No Wi-Fi drops, no dead batteries, full 4K, and the feed never competes with the family Netflix. This is the default for anything permanent.

Wireless (Wi-Fi or 4G)

Wi-Fi cameras are fine for a single room near a strong AP. For outbuildings with no cable, a solar 4G camera or a wireless bridge links two buildings without trenching. The cost: signal reliance and bandwidth caps.

Decision rule

If you can run a cable: run it. PoE every time.
If you cannot cable (rented wall, distant gate): wireless, but size the link honestly.
