Hikvision vs Dahua vs Axis: Which CCTV Accessories Are Interchangeable?
Hikvision, Dahua and Axis cameras all speak open PoE, RJ45, BNC and DC standards — so switches, cables, mounts and power are interchangeable. Only brand-locked software and protocols are not.

A common worry: "If I run Hikvision cameras, do I have to buy Hikvision switches, cables and mounts?" The short answer is no. Surveillance gear is built on open standards, so most accessories are interchangeable between Hikvision, Dahua, Axis and other brands.
What is interchangeable (open standards)
- PoE switches & injectors — all three brands use IEEE 802.3af/at. Any compliant switch powers any brand's camera. See the 8-Port PoE switch.
- Network cables (Cat5e/Cat6) — RJ45 is universal. Our Cat6 305m box works across all IP cameras.
- Mounts & brackets — bullet, turret and dome cameras share standard base-mount patterns. Our universal wall bracket fits them.
- Power supplies — DC 12V/24V adapters and distribution boxes are standard. See 12V 2A supply.
- BNC & baluns — for analog/HD-over-coax cameras from any brand.
What is NOT interchangeable
- Brand software & apps — Hikvision iVMS, Dahua DMSS and Axis companion apps are vendor-specific for camera configuration.
- Proprietary protocols — some advanced analytics or ONVIF-extended features may be brand-tuned. Stick to ONVIF-standard setups for cross-brand recording.
- Camera-to-camera mounting — a Hikvision dome cover will not clip onto a Dahua dome; use universal third-party housings.

Do Hikvision cameras need a Hikvision PoE switch?
No. Hikvision IP cameras use the open IEEE 802.3af/at PoE standard, so any compliant third-party PoE switch or injector powers them. They also interconnect with non-Hikvision NVRs over standard RJ45.
Can I mix Hikvision, Dahua and Axis cameras on one switch?
Yes. As long as they all use standard PoE and RJ45, a single PoE switch powers a mixed fleet. Record them on an ONVIF-compliant NVR for cross-brand management.
Are third-party mounts safe for name-brand cameras?
Yes. Bullet, turret and dome cameras share standard base-mount dimensions across brands. Universal brackets are sized to those patterns. SurveilForge is independent and not affiliated with any camera OEM.
