12V vs 24V CCTV Power: How to Choose the Right Supply
12V vs 24V for CCTV: 12V is standard for short runs; 24V tolerates longer cable with less drop. Size a box by total watts, not ports.

Non-PoE analog and some cameras run on low-voltage DC. The two common supplies are 12V and 24V — the right one is mostly about distance.
12V — the default, short runs
Most cameras spec 12V DC. A 12V 18-channel box feeds many cameras from one fused source. Keep runs short (under ~30m) because 12V drops fast over distance.
24V — longer runs, less drop
24V loses less voltage per meter, so it suits longer cable runs to distant cameras. Pair with a local 12V converter at the camera if the camera is 12V-only.
Outdoor without shelter
Use a waterproof 12V supply (IP67) where there is no cover, and finish ends with DC plugs.
Size by watts, not ports
Add each camera's watt draw, multiply by 1.2 for headroom, and pick a box rated above that total. A 10A 12V box is 120W — enough for ~10 average cameras.

Can I mix 12V and 24V cameras on one system?
Only with separate supplies or a 24V run plus a 12V converter at each camera. Do not put 12V cameras on a 24V line.
How far can 12V camera power run?
Keep 12V runs under ~30m to avoid voltage drop. For longer runs use 24V or step up to PoE (48V), which tolerates distance far better.
